A third of the world's population are cursed to become werewolves on the full moon, and walled cities like Seattle protect the Clean Bloods. People like Detective Daria McQueen protect the gates of the city to stand against the packs of wolves, three nights a month.
When Daria discovers a breach in the wall while on her patrol, and saves a family from infection by three hungry wolves. Daria herself is saved by a Wolf Hunter she had believed to be nothing but an urban legend, the Red Hood, Maireni Damaschin. The mysterious woman in a red cloak seems to possess inhuman abilities.
Daria and Maireni find themselves caught in a tangled web of deception that goes back centuries, which could spell the end to Clean Bloods and throw the world into servitude.

In Erik Schubach's author bio, he explicitly says that he is not an English major. I was. I can tell you everything that is wrong with Erik's writing -- he's a chronic abuser of apostrophes and commas; he often uses the wrong homophone for what he wants to say; and he has a tendency to use wildly anachronistic phrases such as "okay" centuries before they were actually invented. All of those things *should* drive me up the wall. But something strange happens when I read Erik's books. I flick right past those structural errors in his writing. Why? Because he tells a damn good story, and honestly, the only thing he needs is a better proofreader. Erick's heroines are strong, yet believable; there's not a Mary Sue among them. They have flaws and weaknesses. Best of all, they fall in love with other women while doubting themselves in the process.
I have often said that what I want in a Sapphic romance is simply a good story which just happens to include two women falling in love with each other. And on that, Erik delivers... often, and well.

Red Hood The Hunt Urban Fairytales Book 1 eBook Erik Schubach Reviews
Loved the pacing and the lightness of the story even with the adventure. It is a clever spin on Red Riding-hood. Read this and then keep going. Fun times!
If you want to read a story involving fairytale's and with Red Riding Hood being Hot with super powers. Then you will love this unexpected story, thats nothing like you expect. I didn't give this book a 5 star mostly because there are times where you hit boring spots. But otherwise it's a great book.
Ah, it's so exciting to sit and read another wonderful story that takes you away from the mundane. I really enjoyed this twist on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale, the cast of characters and the events that took place had the same mix as Erik's past books, great main characters, laughs and terrific story telling, not to mention a bit of romance. Looking forward to the next installment.
I had trouble convincing myself to buy this book. I kept avoiding reading it because I didn't expect much. As it turned out, it was a great story that kept my interest. I just bought the second book in the series.
If you like a fairytale reimagining with action, werewolves, and love, well here you go.
I stumbled at first with some grammar issues, but I read the author's about page and realize this is a self published book, so I let it go and enjoyed the story.
I also thought about how strange it was for a man wanting to write lesbian fiction, but hey writing is not just about writing your own experiences all the time, it is an art form to covey thoughts, feelings, and stories. Also it wasn't creepy.
I enjoyed the story and will continue to read the series.
If you aren't sure it is for you try a sample read.
This is a very unusual derivative of the Little Red Riding Hood legend. I particularly like seeing an "Urban Fantasy" novel that doesn't idealize werewolves. In this story, they are monsters. It's a refreshing return to the roots of the character type. The characters are interesting and likeable. This is a light read, not high fantasy.
My only objection, and the reason I'm subtracting one star, is the book is filled with obvious grammar errors and typos. They distract from the flow of the story. Spell-check is not sufficient as proofreading.
What a fantastic retelling of the Red Riding Hood fable. A unique take with werewolves, silver and the charming addition of Red as an other worldly savior. Daria's role as police seeking revenge yet holding onto the belief that there would be some way of saving her family came out just right. Two strong main characters taking on the evil while harboring some of that evil in themselves played strongly on the emotions and keeps you right on edge throughout the entire tale. Excellent reading and I can't wait to see even more of these two.
