Annabeth is a hopeless romantic who believes in soul mates. In fact, she's been writing to hers each year on her birthday since she was 16.

Now, at 34, she's still holding out hope of finding Mr. Right, even though he'd be fighting an uphill battle to gain her trust thanks to a traumatic experience years before that's left her unable to commit.

When Annabeth meets a handsome literature professor named Alex on her 34th birthday, she thinks her quest may finally be at an end. Things don't quite go as planned, so Annabeth resolves to do everything she can over the next year to find the unknown recipient of her letters. But blind dates, meetup events and online singles sites have nothing on what fate has in store for her when a co-worker unexpectedly quits and Annabeth finds herself working in close quarters with both Alex and her long-ago ex, Nick. Fighting her attraction to one and loathing for the other, Annabeth is forced to face all of her old insecurities while keeping an eye on a scheming frienemy who may derail her hopes and dreams.

Been Searching for You A Romantic Comedy (Audible Audio Edition) Nicole Evelina Ashley Clements Lawson Gartner Publishing Books

I always hesitate to pick up something in the "romance" genre - it's either written by someone unfamiliar with the talk and customs of the younger generation or it's a quick set up to a TMI sex scene that is more porn than prose. What a delight to find a book that is deeply engaging while maintaining its sense of humor and a main character that has not just values, but a brain. The main character, a 34 year old in Chicago, where I live, isn't a prude, she just knows that there is more to love than auctions and speed dating and the internet, more than relationships that are as ever changing as they are shallow. A budding writer who is deeply involved with the arts - she needs someone that can match not just her mind, but her wit - if he's handsome on top of that even better.

She goes from famine to feast, often with hilarious detail, when she suddenly has three men in her life, an artist she just likes, an old boyfriend she loathes, and one that she just may secretly love - all vying for her time and attention.

The author has a great grasp of history and literature, which shines in dialogue with two of the main characters. I smiled when one of them states Ulysses by James Joyce is a favorite book. Although this book is romantic comedy as opposed to classic literature, it too dwells on the heart of modern people with all their foibles and misdemeanors. I thought of that phrase when Joyce talked "ineluctable modality of the visible." You shut your eyes, open them again, and find the world continues without your witnessing it. We change, people leave, let the world continues on in its beauty and wonder. It's a beautiful reflection on change and time and one's place in the scheme of things that come out in this book as the main character takes a look back at each passing year as she writes a letter on her birthday to the great love she has never met.

The author does a great job of overlapping story arcs as characters are separated as time passed, bringing the book to a conclusion that was well worth the journey.

Been Searching for You by Nicole Evelina
Review by Catherine Ojalvo
The story starts on Annabeth Coe's 34th birthday.Since she was 16, she has written these letters to a future husband, sure that he exists, and they will have a future together.Annabeth works for a PR company as part of a creative team. Her friend Miles designs and Annabeth writes. In her spare time, she is also writing a novel about Chicago during Prohibition. She is a very bright and refreshingly honest main character of the book.On her search for love she tries internet dating, blind dates, traffic light parties and nightclubs with her friend supermodel Mia.unlike Annabeth,Mia is quite genrous with her sexual favors
After a few months pass ,she suddenly has three men in her life.Alex,an English professor at the Univerity of Chicago,Victor,in construction during the day and and artist at night and her old college boyfriend Nick. After 15 years, after things endly badly in Rome,he starts working at the same PR firm as she does in Chicago. She had met Alex earlier at event her firm sponsored and now she is working with him on a contract the firm has with the University of Chicago. There is a strong attraction between them, but she can't date anyone she works with.Annabeth starts seeing Victor, but she does not feel the emotional connection that will allow her to sleep with him
Annabeth writes a lot about how it feels to be single, when you are older..She is grateful that she that she good friends,a promising career, but no one to share it with. She has never been in love,head-over-heels,the heart melting kind.Annabeth wants something for the long haul or not at all.Annabeth talks about literature from James Joyce to Casanova, the history of Chicago ,and Prohibition and her work. She is a woman with a great sense of humor, who knows who she is and what she wants.Like all of us,she had issues earlier in her life that she must deal with before handing her heart over to a man.
During the novel, her Father passes away.In a letter to after his death he tells her"No matter what life throws at you,you are stronger. You can overcome anythingYou will never be alone.I will always be by your side".
With this in head ,Annabeth returns to Chicago to find the man that she knws is her soul mate. When she sees him,he says"Love isn't about what we do or do not deserve. We would all be alone. It is about forgiveness and second chances, and hundreth chances.Being there for each other in good times and bad.All we have is today."I found this to be a very fitting end end to story about searching for love and the meaning of of your life.Words for all of us to live by.
It’s been a while since I read a true contemporary romance, and I certainly am picky about it (I have a bad habit of comparing anything romantic to LaVryle Spencer’s work). Been Searching for You was a dive into both reality and fiction, and was not only concisely and tightly well-written, but once again showed me the level of professionalism and polish Nicole Evelina gives each one of her novels.

Been Searching for You is a foray into the life and mind of a modern day working woman, who is hitting her late thirties. She meets potential dates at work or at work events instead of the local party or bar. The book is set against a realistic backdrop of social media, family issues, and real-life relationship communication struggles. Evelina, as usual, layers the drama finely and truthfully, with enough surprises to keep you reading and wondering what happens next (honestly, I read this book fast!) in the curves of her protagonist’s relationships with her mother, her co-worker, her ex-boyfriend, her friends and yes, her love interest.

True to the genre, there are misunderstandings, life hurtles and moments of sadness, and no scene is superfluous. It’s why Evelina continues to garner wide recognition for her work, and why I’ll keep reading!
Really enjoyed this book and looking forward to see more from Nicole Evelina!!
This is the perfect romance novel for a quick read. It's been a long time since I was single (and living in Chicago) but it was easy to relate to the main character.
Romance with a touch of humor is always my cup of tea. This book did not disappoint, with a strong female character and a likable hero.
A lovely and brilliant story from this writer. I felt like I was living parts of my own lonely heart that we all go through growing up. Amazing! Can't wait for the next story in this series
